The event was very meaningfull and both TASOS members and members of public enjoyed the informative talks and viewing the stars under the city night sky. Fallows's mission, sparked by imprecise celestial charts causing too many shipwrecks, marked the beginning of the 'colonial' period of astronomy, the impact of which still reverberates today. Early winter nights are ideal for children who have earlier bedtimes. Observatory staff and helpers from the Science Centre Singapore were invited and they joined in the celebrations at the later part of the night.

There are several methods for measuring a star’s diameter. They are the first such pristine particles ever collected in space, and scientists are eagerly waiting for their chance to "get their hands" on them. For research, Dartmouth owns a share of the largest telescope in the Southern Hemisphere, the 11-meter Southern African Large Telescope (SALT), as well as the MDM Observatory, consisting of 1.3 and 2.4 meter telescopes, on Kitt Peak in Arizona.
