Kind of angsty and a bit reminiscent of Cupid and Psyche (and Pandora's Box threw in). An enormous resource by a university academic, on an eclectic variety of subjects mainly to do with children's literature, with a great many guides, histories, compilations, articles, booklists etc. on all these, e.g. the Snow White resources site. Panttaja, like Bettelheim, ties Cinderella to the Goose Girl where in both girls lose positions of privilege only to regain similar or superior status. Then that looks at her with that's eyes like a cool o' fire, an' that says: " Woman, there's only to-morrer night, an' then yar'U be mine! " An' away te flew.

SPECTRE-D0GS.1 Neither Brand in his Popular Antiquities^ nor Sir Walter Scott in his Witchcraft and Demonology, mentions spectre- dogs as a peculiar class of apparitions, yet they seem to occupy a distinct branch of English mythology.

If you want to know more about Sac and Fox culture and history, two interesting sources are Sac and Fox (for younger kids) and The Sac and Fox Indians (for older kids), or you could go straight to the source and read the fascinating 1844 autobiography of Sauk leader Black Hawk. Generally learned in informal ways (by personal example, by word of mouth, or by repetition within a community), folklore is typically passed along from generation to generation, from individual to individual. "Folklore" as a term has historically been limited to traditional narratives, songs, dances, and customs; by extension it has also come to include such actions and behaviors as material culture (vernacular architecture, crafts, and decorative arts); calendrical observances like holidays, family celebrations, rituals, and festivals; modes of behavior (folk medicine, traditional foods, and occupational practices); and the arts of display, in yard decorations, fence and gate construction, and the arrangement of buildings, lawns, and gardens.
